Live Eye TV Episode 9

Live Eye Tv kicks off Episode 9 by dropping a little funk in your No Wave. Olympia, Washington’s Old Time Relijun have released another strange and amazing album on K Records called 2012, and live, this 3 piece is like a sweaty voodoo dance fuck under a full moon. Bare chested and hissing apocalyptic incantations, singer and guitarist Arrington de Dionyso comes on like some kind of wild-eyed acid freak brutalizing a guitar; and all of this backed by a most ass-funkin’ rhythm section of Aaron Hartman on up-right bass and Jamie Petersen on drums. Imagine Captain Beefhart dragged DNA out into the dessert, and got ’em drunk on bats blood for an all night punk boogie melt down!! reptiles behave yourselves”
Next up a music video by Portland, Oregon’s magic-boy duo The Helio Sequence. The video is for the song “Don’t Look Away”, and is found on their last Sup Pop record Love and Distance. The video, directed by SNL’s Fred Armisen, is a perfect visual accompaniment to the lush and earnest pop-gem orchestrations of The Helio Sequence.
This month we also have a new episode of holiday gore from Turk and Jim. Watch what happens when Jim takes the man eating turkey home to meet the folks for Thanksgiving. Will Turk quell the beast inside with booze and pills or turn Jim’s family into his own holiday feast…
Episode 9 also features a performance video from Chicago octet Head of Femur. The band was conceived by Nebraska natives Mike Elsener, Ben Armstrong, and Matt Focht in 2001, and draws on the deep pool of talent associated with Saddle Creek Records (for instance Matt Focht plays drums with Bright Eyes). This is a band brimming with talent and composing songs of honest joy. This set was recorded in Seattle, Wa. at The Paradox, and it will stand as one of the best shows recorded by Live Eye Tv in 2005. Earnest, frenzied and beautiful this band plays with the kind of infectious enthusiasm that captures the hearts of true fans. This is definitely a band to watch and if you like the video we recommend you check out their 2005 release on spinArt Records, Hysterical Stars.
Winding down the show this month is another beautiful short film by local art genius, Eric Ostrowski Much of his film work is done in the direct animation style and often involves rigorous, time consuming methods of affecting film directly by hand. This short 2 minute film called “The Hummingbird” won the Cine X Jury Selection “Best Regional” this year at the 22nd Annual Olympia Film Festival. This beautifully realized, hand painted film, evocatively channels raw, vivid colors into the mesmerizing flight of the hummingbird.
We conclude the show this month with an interview and performance from one of Seattle’s most intriguing rock outfits, Kinski. With their second album out on Sub Pop, Alpine Static, Kinski continues to hone their powerful guitar driven sound pushing the boundaries of post rock into the nousphere. Live Eye Tv’s Karrie Gaylord caught up with the band this summer out on Lake Washington for a little chat about their new album and the video for the song, “The Wives of Artie Shaw”, and later we caught a blazing set of theirs at the Crocodile Cafe. For more of Kinski check out our performance video for their song “Hiding Drugs in the Temple Prt 2” on Episode 1!!
