Listen: Pyramid Club “Stay Behind”/”Heart Throb”

Pyramid Club is a new electronic project from DKA Records collaborators Matt Weiner (TWINS) and Chris Daresta (Anticipation), and today we check out a pair of “demo” recordings from the duo–“Stay Behind” and “Heart Throb“. Setting out with the intention to make to make some tracks that sounded “loosely like the Cabs and Throbbing Gristle doing acid house”, Weiner and Daresta assembled their arsenal of vintage and analogue gear and began recording live. These two initial cuts are from those early sessions, and “Stay Behind” in particular seems to follow Pyramid Club’s initial Cabs and Gristle acid aspirations. The live recording means there’s a loose and funky feel on the track, as the machines are put thru their paces, and that unmistakable acid gurgle bubbles in the mix. Meanwhile, “Heart Throb” bangs out a colder and more industrial groove while mournful synths couple with catatonic vocals and an oblique, repeating sample. Harkening back to something like TG’s 1980 LP Heathen Earth (Industrial Records)–an album also recorded live–Pyramid Club seems to be re-imagining that fertile crossroads where “punk” and “electronic music” first met.
