Listen: Black Tears “The Long Decline”

539

Black Tears distill a particularly aphotic strain of mutant techno on the title track to their debut 2xLP, The Long Decline. The Italian duo is a collaboration between Francesco Baudazzi (Violet Poison, Bakunin Commando, Diana Berti) and Giorgio Gigli (Zooloft). Describing the material on the new record as “neoromantic nihilism”, the pair combine a noisy industrial palette with scraping proto-rhythms. The title cut sets it’s noir mood with cavernous washes of whirring drone and a loping bass pulse that beats with misanthropic intent. Like some gaping cataract belching black smoke, when the track opens it reveals stacked layers of rhythm and a generally menacing ambience. The Long Decline is out now on Baudazzi’s Veleno Viola label, a post-punk continuation of his Violet Poison Records.
