Rhyton “D.D. Damage”

The Brooklyn experimental trio Rhyton released their Redshift LP last week via Thrill Jockey. Today we catch up with their new video for “D.D. Damage“. The group is comprised of Dave Shuford (No-Neck Blues Band), Jimy Seitang (Stygian Stride), and Rob Smith (Pigeons). Together, they explore the outer limits of improvisation and experimentation while fusing psych and roots rock into odd new permutations.

“D.D. Damage” follows a tweaky groove off-grid into a thorny desert of strangely tuned guitar. The video, directed by Ma Turner, offers heavily effected visuals that bristle with violence. Often using a two screen perspective and a large dose of compositing, Turner’s abstracted images hint at physical struggle as we watch human and animal forms tangle and wrestle.
