Watch Night Riders’ “Via Crucis” Video

Paris-based trio Night Riders released their sophomore 2xLP Meta this month via PV Records and today we watch their recent video for “Via Crucis” off the new album. Shot and directed by Aymeric Messari, with editing by the band’s vocalist/keyboardist Charlotte Leclerc, the video follows Leclerc on a frazzled night bender through the narrow streets of Paris. In a recent interview with Impose Magazine, Leclerc explains that it was a “wild night” following a DJ set she’d played at a local bar in the city. Any initial ideas the band had for the video soon went out the window as she “hadn’t slept for days” and the resulting footage features “a lot of improvisation”.

The video begins with a drunken conversation in a car about “the best fucking cheese shop” and just when you wonder where this dialogue might be leading, “Via Crucis” drops in with tightly wound angular energy full of tension and spleen. Leclerc is the perfect host for this evening of debauchery and she leads us on a harried adventure thru the early morning hours of the city.
