Listen: A Victim Of Society “The Quick and the Dead”

The Greek trio A Victim of Society dish out some killer psych on their new track “The Quick and the Dead.” The band got its’ start back in 2011 while guitarist/vocalist Vagelis Makris and guitarist Fotis Ntouskas were completing their degrees in Computer Engineering at the National Technical University in Athens.

Operating as a guitar-driven duo to begin, the pair self-released a 6-track cassette as well as 7″ EP (Sweet Mistake Productions/Fractal Press) that year. In addition, their track “You’re Gonna Hate Me” was included on the compilation Reverb Conspiracy Vol. 1 which was released by Fuzz Club Records in collaboration with the Austin Psych Festival in 2011.

The duo would go on to open for bands like The Black Angels, Moon Duo, and Disappears before releasing their debut LP Distractions via Inner Ear Records in 2014. Following the completion of their military service that year, Makris and Ntouskas would go on to add drummer Pantelis Karasevdas to the fold.

Look for the track “The Quick and the Dead” to appear on the band’s upcoming LP Freaktown (Inner Ear Records) due out April 26th. The 8-song collection was written as a trio, and they report that “The Quick and the Dead” was the first cut they completed with their new drummer. Built on a blazing guitar lead and galvanized by Vagelis Makris’ charged vocals, this track is also pushed to new heights on the strength of Pantelis Karasevdas’ propulsive drum lines.

“C’mon,” Makris exhorts throughout the cut, before adding later, “We don’t need a Messiah anymore.” With that, AVOS blasts off into psychedelic and free-thinking territories on this scorching jam, and somehow they manage to sound epically tight and loose all at the same time while doing it.
