Michigan-based quartet CryFace play indie rock with the kind of lo-fi abandon that is sorely missed these days. The band’s brand new LP Suds is out now on Ann Arbor’s Big Love Records and it’s filled with the kind of shaggy pop jams that harken back to Pavement’s Slanted & Enchanted or the early roster of New Zealand’s Flying Nun Records. Sure, most of those sonic references probably occurred while these cats were still listening to Raffi records or before they were even born, but that doesn’t stop this rambunctious four-piece from making the kind of idiosyncratic rock that would have made their predecessors proud.

CryFace features the guitarists Ian Cotter and Levi Makula sharing vocal duties with drummer Daniel Cotter and bassist Robert Neyrinck rounding out the group’s rhythm section. “Hundreds” shows off their heavier, wild side with grungy low-end, knifing guitar lines, and the graveled vocal refrain: “I would end it all tonight/If I could die inside your arms.” The results are intoxicating in that woozy, off-kilter kind of way that suggests tonight’s heroic over-indulgence will be sorely paid for tomorrow, but with six hundred miles left to go, tonight, CryFace is in it to win it.

The video for the track finds the boys goofing down at the local library and vintage shop, and what it might lack in expensive production values it more than makes up for with care-free attitude and infectious personality. You can stream CryFace’s Suds LP after the video embed below…
