Floating Points‘ upcoming 12″ Ratio is due out on October 19th. Comprised of one epic dance cut that clocks in at just over 19-minutes, the vinyl release will feature deconstructed elements from the track making it possible for DJs to create their own mix of “Ratio.” The A-side will present two versions, with the first 9-minutes being identical to the digital, and the second 9 presenting only that part’s organ section. Flip the 12″ over, and on the B-side, you’ll find a Dub edit with the cut’s drums and bassline.
The radio edit for “Ratio” premiered this week on Annie Mac‘s BBC1 show, and while this Soundcloud version only offers a scant 3 minutes, it bounces with infectious energy. Ping-ponging organ lines and acid-tinged bass animate this track with the help of a smooth shuffling kick drum. Pulling apart the mix like snappy strings of ear taffy, Sam Shepherd reveals a bubbling core of melody, and as it cascades to the surface with a spine-tingling build, one can imagine the full 19-minutes is quite the ride.
