You’ll definitely be hearing Oiseaux-Tempête’s 2017 LP AL-’AN ! الآن (And your night is your shadow — a fairy-tale piece of land to make our dreams) LP (Sub Rosa) on our Favorite Albums of 2017 list. The album found the band’s core members, Frédéric D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul, continuing their amazing musical/political journey across Europe and the Middle East.

While the group’s self-titled 2013 LP debut chronicled the political and economic crises facing Greece at the time, Al-‘An!–which translates as Now! in Arabic–is inspired by the pair’s 2016 travels to Beirut. The album is the third installment from Oiseaux-Tempête’s travels to fragile social zones in and around Europe, and it finds the group collaborating with Lebanese musicians like the guitarist Charbel Haber (Scrambled Eggs, The Bunny Tylers) and percussionist Sharif Sehnaoui (Karkhana, Alan Bishop, Okay Temiz), to name a few.

This week Oiseaux-Tempête revealed they will be releasing طرب TARAB in 2018, a 2xLP of live material featuring the Al-‘An! standout track, “Carnaval.” The announcement comes with this excellent video of the group performing the song live, directed by the audio-visual duo As Human Pattern (aka Gregoire Orio & Gregoire Couvert)–also responsible for the video and light show which can be seen during the performance.

The group’s line-up here includes Frédéric D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul as well as the musicians Paul Regimbeau, Sylvain Joasson, Abed Kobeissy, Ali El Hout, and Charbel Haber. You’ll find a line-up and instrumentation list for the track after the video embed below. In addition, Oiseaux-Tempête will play their first shows in Canada this week with Jerusalem In My Heart and Suuns. Check out the live dates below…
