It’s been seven years now since we last heard from Gang Gang Dance, and they’ve been sorely missed in the interim! Today, the band announced they will release their newest LP, Kazuashita, via 4AD on June 22nd. The record will unite founding members Brian DeGraw and Josh Diamond with the band’s longtime vocalist Lizzi Bougatsos. Produced by DeGraw, with additional help from Jorge Elbrecht, who also handled some mixing duties on the upcoming effort, the band reports that the album was recorded at several NYC studios and art spaces. In addition, Kazuashita finds Gang Gang Dance joined by drummer Ryan Sawyer–who met the band thru the Boredoms’ BOADRUM project. Look for the cover image to feature a stunning photograph from American photographer David Benjamin Sherry.
“Lotus” provides our first listen in on the group’s upcoming record. Replete with stunningly lush production, the track weaves a shoegaze guitar line with psychoactive electronic ambiance and Lizzi Bougatsos beguiling vocals. Driven by Sawyer’s crisp and shimmering percussion, “Lotus” is as warm and enveloping as a lovely summer night under a sky full of twinkling stars. Gang Gang Dance, it’s so good to have you back!
