Brooklyn-based psych band Weird Owl returns this week with their brand new LP Bubblegum Brainwaves due out Friday, October 13th. Having played together since 2004, the band has a pair of releases on Tee Pee Records, 2008’s Ever The Silver Cord Be Loosed and 2011’s Build Your Beast A Fire. In addition, more recently the band’s 2013 EP Healing, as well as their 2015 LP Interstellar Skeletal, appeared on Anton Newcombe‘s (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) label, A Recordings, Ltd. The group’s newest effort was recorded, mixed, and produced by Psychic TV guitarist Jeffrey Berner, and it even features a guest vocal appearance from the legendary artist, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.

Invisibility Cloak” opens Bubblegum Brainwaves with a lightning burst of throbbing energy. Like a sonic key to opening the third eye, this sugar-laced cut finds the band blasting off for the Inner Realms with a rollicking, organ-like lead and propulsive drumming. Weird Owl vocalist/guitarist Trevor Tyrrell plays host on this psychoactive flight, so relax and sit back while he narrates a tale of dissolving realities. Slight discomfort as your ego melts away like neon ice cream? Just remember Tyrrel’s mantra, “There’s no you/There’s no me.” So, what of “all those things you thought you’d seen–out there?”
