New Music: Bored Nothing “I Wish You Were Dead”

2276

Fergus Miller began writing songs while still a teenager, recording them to cassette and giving them away to friends and random recipients. During this early creative and nomadic period of his life, Miller choose to emulate Daniel Johnston‘s unaffected approach to music making and distribution, while compiling four tapes-worth of material. Miller has now settled in Melbourne, and his Bored Nothing project released a new, self-titled LP today on Australia’s Spunk Records. The new album compiles some of Miller’s favorite songs from his past cassettes, while adding five new tracks. On “I Wish You Were Dead“, like on many of his songs, Miller plays all of the instruments. Channeling Homestead Records and Flying Nun‘s golden era of indie pop, a time before the artist was even born, “I Wish You Were Dead” is an off-handed, dreamy gem that shines brightly on an elegantly winding guitar line, and Miller’s hazy, sweet vocals, echoing and chorused as he harmonizes with himself.
