Blues Control are just the kind of musical gypsies you’d like to find living in your basement. The duo of Lea Cho and Russ Waterhouse travel vast distances on their magic carpet of music, and are always more than happy to take on any scruffy and red eyed hitchhiker they find along the way! The band’s 2012 LP Valley Tangents, on Drag City Records, finds the duo integrating their far-flung travels into a coherent guide for fellow, itinerate, sonic-wayfarers. While on past listens, like their 2009 release for Siltbreeze Records, Local Flavor, it mighta felt like you piled into the Blues Control jalopy for a dangerous, wandering, joy ride, on ‘Valley Tangents’ the duo seems to have some destinations in mind! This week we have the Kathy Rose directed video for the languorous ambience of “Opium Den/Fade to Blue”. Rose has been creating experimental media art since the 70’s, and her surreal, “animated” work here, is the perfect visual accompaniment for the band’s strange trunk of magical wares.
