Watch Lorelle Meets the Obsolete’s Video “Balance”:
Hard to believe we’re already going on two years since Lorelle Meets the Obsolete‘s last LP Chambers. The duo of Alberto González and Lorena Quintanilla return today to Captcha Records with a fantastic new long-player called Balance. The title track is lush and spacious, with Cooper Crain‘s expert mixing providing a roomy ambiance for chiming guitar and purring organ. But, while Quintanilla’s voice might lull you into an ethereal dream, this track also packs a powerful punch when it unleashes titanic squalls of howling organ and guitar noise.
The video for the track culls together found footage, with some imagery possibly shot by the band, though no directorial credits are provided. Natural imagery of fish, birds, and cats, often colored in electric blue, combine with apocalyptic scenes of urban destruction, and by the time footage of González and Quintanilla emerges, a wild dose of effects and compositing sends psychedelic coloring rippling across the screen.
