New Track: Shigeto “Detroit Part 1”

Shigeto “Detroit Part 1”

As Shigeto‘s new track “Detroit Part 1” would seem to reference, the electronic musician has recently moved from Brooklyn to the Motor City. This cut is the first single from his up-coming LP No Better Time Than Now due out August 20th via Ghostly International. Using a fresh, expressive style, sick arsenal of rapier-sharp beats, and his talent for creating jazz-inflected instrumental hip-hop, “Detroit Part 1” is both a progression for the artist and an homage to the city which gave birth to Techno.

While Shigeto’s past works like the EP What We Held Onto and the 2012 LP Lineage were meditations on the artist’s Japanese-American heritage, Zach Saginaw says that the constantly changing fabric of his life has allowed him to more closely focus on the now. In talking about the inspiration for No Better Time Than Now he sagely offers:

“Don’t sleep on a feeling. If it feels right it is. We say life is ‘short,’ but [we] know it feels ‘long,’ so when you have a chance to be honest with yourself, take it. There is no better time than now.”
