The Leeds-based psych quintet Hookworms will release their sophomore LP Pearl Mystic on September 3rd via Weird World Records, and today we have their new video for “Away/Towards“. The eight minute plus track builds from a slowly revolving nebula of stark tones before it gains form and mass, and adds vocalist MJ‘s reverberating and electric vocal delivery. Things get pretty spacey for a short while before Hookworms launch headlong into the stratosphere for a sonic journey that travels a wide array of altered dynamics. The result is a psychedelic music that doesn’t rely upon classic psych tropes, but instead blazes it’s own path for a truly interesting aural trip. Maybe not surprisingly, the video for “Away/Towards” follows a similar tact with shamanic forest rituals and plenty of psychoactivating visuals…
