New Track: Heavenly Beat “Honest”

Heavenly Beat‘s John Pena is getting ready to release his second LP Prominence, via Captured Tracks on October 15th. The record will be the follow up to last year’s excellent debut Trust, and like that album, was recorded and mixed in Pena’s apartment. The Texas native had initially mixed a batch of song’s in the studio, following the release of his debut, but those would be eventually shelved in place of the tracks that would go on to form Prominence. On the cut “Honest“, Pena comes out of the gate with a clipped sample on repeat to create tones reminiscent of The Field, before adding slide guitar samples, toe-tapping steel drum rhythms, an 80’s electro-pop melody delivered by something sounding like synthesized harmonica, and Pena’s sweetly breezy vocals asking, “How bad does it seem?/You don’t have to be honest”. Now, how’s that for honesty!
