patten‘s excellent new album ESTOILE NAIANT is out now on Warp Records, and today we take a look at the video for his track “Winter strobing“. Directed by his visual collaborator Jane Eastlight, the video follows an anonymous female protagonist as she exits the Tube in London and walks along the Thames river in the waning light of a winter day.
Using this simple set-up, the camera mostly follows a short pace behind the young woman with its view often approximating her view as we walk past strolling tourists and Londoners on break in the restaurants lining the river. “Winter solstice” provides a perfect, if not slightly warped, sonic backdrop for this urban tour as patten seems to weave together this peripatetic track from fluttering bits of audio detritus, clouds of skewed but angelic vocal samples, mellowed jungle, “found” sounds, and odd-ball, channel-changing melodies!
patten will embark on a world tour between February and May, and while many dates are in Europe and the UK, look for the artist to return Stateside in April for the Moog Fest in Asheville, NC, as well as a few other select US dates. You can check ’em out below.
