New Video: Sculpture “Polymorphic Operator”

Sculpture is a musical duo comprised of British musician Dan Hayhurst and New Zealand animator Reuben Sutherland, and on May 13th the pair will release their Software Label debut, the Membrane Pop LP. Using analogue and digital source material via samples, found sound, tape manipulation, chance practices and algorithmic programming, Hayhurst explains:

“I’m aiming to make a coherent, adventurous electronic pop record with its own voice and identity. I don’t think experimental music has to be dark, diffcult or joyless. I try to make something playful, and maybe a little absurd.”

With a crash, “Polymorphic Operator” drops some serious, jungle-thick low-end, and pitting it against a foreshortened and glass ceiling of squelched sounds, the track flexes it’s thugged out bass muscles in dubbish ways, before introducing flutters of flute, slowly revolving helicopter wings, and heaps of other digital detritus! The video for the track uses kaleidoscopic patterns of color that continually recede to reveal new layers of complexity, while oscillating with static-like interference to this track’s punishingly deep bass.
