Listen: Anthony Naples “Refugio”

473

NYC producer Anthony Naples will release his Body Pill LP on February 17th via Text Records. The young producer first started putting out material in 2012, quickly catching the eye of Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter, of the Mister Saturday Night Series, before really lighting things up with a request from Four Tet for a commissioned remix of “128 Harps“. Since then, Naples has released material on labels like Opal Tapes, Rubadub, Trilogy Tapes, and Four Tet’s own Text Records. “Refugio” opens with the twisted phasing of a rusted out bass drum, while viscerally alarming single notes pierce the air. Sixteen bars in, the track hits a robo-funky stride with blinking and bleeping key patterns playing off each other in syncopated complexity. Throughout, Naples expertly blends sonic textures, and his rough hewn, bit crushed rhythms and elegant, understated melodies lend “Refugio” a real urban dimensionality.
