Hieroglyphic Being & J.I.T.U. Ahn Sahm Buhl have released their 2xLP We Are Not The First via RVNG Intl. today. Hieroglyphic Being is the highly accomplished Chicago producer/DJ Jamal Moss, and he is joined on this Afro-Futurist “Epic” by an amazing group of experimental and free jazz leaning musicians that includes players like: Marshall Allen on saxophone and keys, Greg Fox on drums, Ben Vida on modular synth, Shahzad Ismaily on guitar, Elliott Levin on flute and saxophone, as well as vocalists Rafael Sanchez and Shelley Hirsch. Representing the “Ahn Sahm Buhl” part of this group’s rather daunting band name, the other half stands for Journey Into The Unexpected.
Today we watch their new video for “Fuck The Ghetto/Think About Outer Space“. Directed by Georgia, the multi-media/design duo comprised of the artists Justin Tripp and Brian Close, the video makes excellent use of some striking aerial footage. Featuring the track’s vocalist Rafael Sanchez, and often shot from the vantage of a high flying camera, his lone figure amid the cities’ dense geometry echoes his call to ditch micro tribal dramas, in favor of a more trans-human, macro perspective. Yes, space is still the place to blow your mind!
