Listen to Greys New Single “Fresh Hell”:

Toronto punks Greys have a brand new single called “Fresh Hell“, and if it bristles with aggressive angst, it’s because the cut was influenced by examples of current social and political injustice. The band explained via their Facebook page that the song is inspired by the Jian Ghomeshi verdict and Rob Ford‘s death, and how those two events “seemed to reinforce all notions of institutional oppression in 2016 – with a dystopian twist!”

In addition, Bandcamp asked the group to discuss some of their current musical influences, and in so doing Greys’ Shehzaad Jiwani referenced the Suuns track “Hold/Still“, saying, “There is a lot to be said of a band that exercises such restraint, which is something we started to learn with newer songs we’ve written, like “Fresh Hell”. Indeed, this track is kept pretty minimal, and its’ sparse arrangement creates a driving tension as a pounding kick and high hat opens the song with a resounding clamor before a dark undertow of bass drags you out into icy waves of churning guitar.
