Eric Dingus is an 18-year old producer and beat prodigy from Austin, TX, and it looks the kid’s amazing new mixtape Subliminal Innocence will already be his ninth release…at least if you’re counting on his Bandcamp page. With his young career just starting, Dingus already possesses a sophisticated palette for instrumental hip-hop and electronic music, as well as an obviously prodigious work effort. In talking about Subliminal Innocence Eric says, “Like many of my releases, the main vibe is ethereal or dreamy instrumentals. I wanted to show that this dreamy vibe could have variety, and work as a full length project. It was inspired by my depression, Japanese horror movies, video game soundtracks, and just the music I enjoy – hip hop and electronic music.” Across fourteen tracks that clock in at just under an hour, Dingus deftly balances his highly articulate rhythmic sensibility with a precocious talent for creating emotive, instrumental soundscapes. Discussing the mixtape’s lead track “Teach You How To Love“, Dingus explains, “I’ve never been in love, so the only thing i know about how to love at this time in my life is music. It was inspired by how I hope in the future i can understand love for other people.” Ah, from the mouths of babes…
