Re-Issue News: Oakland’s Naked Lights re-issue Chime Grove

Originally released as a limited-run, cassette-only affair for Sanity Muffin Records in 2012, Oakland’s Naked Lights are seeing a reissue of their debut Chime Grove. This is one of those records that’s hard to pin down. The opening track, “build your own Vatican”, brings together a Kosmische-type, hypnotic vibe, coupled with a bit of the futuristic space lounge of Stereolab or Broadcast. Other tracks push deep into the noir, soundtrack territory of The Bad Seeds or even Morricone. The album is full of pulsating synths, damaged guitars and drum machines, with a sparse helping of scattered vocals. The Berlin-based label ADAGIO 830 is rightly giving this impressive debut a wider release. No word on an upcoming tour, but you can have a listen to the album in it’s entirety below:
