Beach Fossils have released a new video today for their excellent track “Generational Synthetic“. Directed by the Canadian videographer and musician Pierce McGarry, here he takes a lo-fi approach using grainy, interlaced footage of the band goofing on the street, to which McGarry adds a smattering of visual effects to further accentuate the colors and textures in his video. In talking about the making of “Generational Synthetic”, he explains:
“It was a befouled night in Brighton England. The pier was sullied with crumbs of meat fallen off the tail of some young fresh hot dogs. The waves were undulating and thrusting at the shore, like a weight lifter killing a friend in a steroid craze with his bare knuckles. Amongst all the chaos Dustin, his gang, and I met up. We were like “hey lets shoot a video!?” Then unanimously we shouted at a reasonable decibel level “why not?” and “ya.” so we did!”
The resulting work has a broken VHS feel, and the visuals are a great match for the the post-punk mood and energy of this killer cut! “Generational Synthetic” is off the band’s 2013 release Clash The Truth, out now on Captured Tracks. Beach Fossils kick off a US tour this coming Friday in NYC at Terminal 5. Don’t miss the dates below.
