New Video: Devendra Banhart “Für Hildegard von Bingen”

1601

In this new video from Devendra Banhart, he imagines what might have happened if the medieval Christian saint and visionary Hildegard of Bingen had left her monastery for the big city, and a career as disco diva! Posted today on MOCATV‘s YouTube channel as part of their Art+Music series, the video was written by Banhart and the video’s director Isaiah Seret, and it stars the model/writer Jodie Smith as Hildegard, and the actor/musician Joel Virgil as the head priest. Beautifully shot in black and white with a strong filmic sense, the excellently produced visuals are a perfect match for this track’s bold re-imagining of the legendary Sibyl of the Rhine. “Für Hildegard von Bingen” is off Banhart’s most recent LP, and debut for Nonesuch Records, Mala, and the album was recorded by Banhart and bandmate Noah Georgeson at a house in LA using borrowed equipment, and a recorder the pair purchased at a pawn shop!
