The Mexican psych duo Lorelle Meets the Obsolete have had a busy, action packed year since the release of their excellent 2013 LP Corruptible Faces, out now on Captcha Records, so it should be no surprise that the band is readying Chambers, a new long-player due out February 17th via the label, and Sonic Cathedral in the UK. After doing some basic tracking with Mikale de Graff and Alex Narinskiy, vocalist/guitarist Lorena Quintanilla and drummer/synth/bass player Alberto González recorded their new record in Chicago with Cooper Crain, of Chicago’s outstanding psych outfit Cave. Chambers was later mastered by Sonic Boom, of the legendary UK band Spacemen 3, as he continues to bring his years of experience to the aid of a new generation of turned-on aural seekers. Discussing the new record González explains:

“Most of the songs came out of jams, while the tunes on the first two albums were structured either by Lorena or me. It’s a really straightforward record. To me it doesn’t sound as hazy as the first two and, as it’s the first time we worked with someone else behind the board, it’s Cooper’s interpretation of Lorelle Meets The Obsolete. Then Sonic Boom cranked the volume up!”

Today we preview the track “Music for Dozens“, while revisiting “What’s Holding You?“. The former is steeped in a real liquor and drugs vibe, and it comes right out of the gate reeling and leering with a crossroads-type blues howl that grows downright devilish, as Lorena Quintanilla’s vocals lead down a k-hole of echoey reverb.
“What’s Holding You?” is built around some serious organ throb, and it nods out on that deep into the drone, while Quintanilla’s ultra cool vocals seduce us into some real bad things! Again, the track displays a serious conflagration of guitar pyrotechnics, using an array of effects to create something that sounds like Frank Zappa torturing a vacuum cleaner. More of that please! Look for Chambers to come out February 17th on limited edition red, green and white vinyl, as well as on CD, and via digital download.
