Let’s kick off the new year with Cass McCombs‘ recently published video for “Big Wheel“, off his excellent 2013 2xCD Big Wheel and Others, out now on Domino. Directed by Albert Herter, the video features an arresting collage of off-beat footage augmented by Herter’s use of large format text, which serves both a visual/graphic function, as well as riffing off McCombs’ stellar lyrics. Here, the text provides another layer of meaning to McCombs’ meditation on power and manhood, and this is brought into even clearer relief as Herter opens the video with the words “JUSTICE” and “MASTER“, before unfolding, word by word, an addendum to “Big Wheel”‘s powerful poetry!
