Listen/Watch: The Young “Metal Flake” & “Cry of Tin”

1202

Austin’s hard-rocking quartet The Young return on August 26th with their new LP Chrome Cactus, due out via Matador Records. Recorded with Tim Green (Nation of Ulysses, The Fucking Champs, etc.) at his Louder Studios in Grass Valley, CA, tracks like the album opener “Metal Flake“, or “Cry of Tin“, which recently got the video treatment from director Winston H. Case, find the band in lean-and-hungry, fighting form!

“Metal Flake” growls and howls with a menacing low end, kicking up some serious gravel, while peeling out into slash and burn guitar interplay, before The Young’s guitarist/vocalist Hans Zimmerman delivers a harrowing lyrical examination of what it means to live between the world that you want, and the one that you have–in other words, the bummer that is growing up.

Video director Winston H. Case sets his sordid story for “Cry of Tin” in an oddly populated storage locker facility, casting The Young as an unwitting band up against a creepy locksmith gone wrong, and the track’s simmering, sublimated menace provides the perfect aural tension for this darkly unwinding tale! Look for The Young to kick off a US tour later this month, with an in-store at Waterloo in Austin, TX on August 25th. You can check out the rest of the dates after the video embed…
