Listen: Fingers “So It Seems”

Today we premiere Fingers‘ debut single, “So It Seems“. The Columbus, OH quartet is getting set to release their first LP Little Waves this coming spring. Recorded in an old converted church called Farm Fresh Studios, somewhere on the outskirts of Bloomington, IN, the group’s expansive and lush pop really shines in this big room atmosphere. “So It Seems” is a song that has been in singer Yashi Bellomy‘s repertoire for some time, and, as it was written long before Fingers came together, the band’s Vincent Valentino reports that it “has had 4 or 5 iterations, over maybe 10 years”. He goes on to explain:

“About a year before Fingers existed, Yashi and our keys player Chris Heidel played a version of the song in a folk band together. Shortly after, Fingers was formed, and we played a very different, almost reggae-esque version of the song while we were still trying to figure our sound out.”

That shouldn’t be a problem now, as the debut single sets down some strong working principles. On the track, the band’s crafted arrangements follow subtle dynamic shifts. Built around Bellomy’s emotive and soulful vocal delivery, the group is excellently suited for this studio that was once a church. Even when ratcheting their sonics into a blaring wall of sound, it’s clean and defined, with plenty of room for their reverberating audio to take powerful effect.
“So It Seems” is a strong first salvo from this young Midwest group, and fans of bands like Hey Marseilles and Ra Ra Riot will find much to love here! If you live in Columbus, you can catch Fingers live on these dates…
