This week Panda Bear released an amazing new video for the track “Tropic of Cancer“, off his Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper LP, out now on Domino. Directed by his Animal Collective partner Dave Portner, this dream-like sequence involves some very cool art direction and wardrobing from Abigail Portner and Ghazal Hashemi, respectively. Featuring a Panda family in sumptuous panda outfits, made from beautifully brocaded fabric, the video’s slow motion imagery is bathed in bright and saturated California colors. What exactly is going on here, though, is anybodies guess. The family walks behind an undecipherable banner designed by Black Dice’s Bjorn Copeland, as glittery discs fall from the sky–while in a later segment a German shepherd charges across the lawn at Papa Panda, as he wrangles the attacking dog using the puffy protection of his sleeve. All in all, quite strange!
