Julia Holter‘s upcoming LP Have You In My Wilderness is due out September 25th via Domino, and today we listen to her beautiful new track “Betsy On The Roof“. Holter’s voice shines here, displaying an impressive dynamic range. Alternating between a hushed delivery and one that displays her raw vocal power, the singer’s formidable talents could make for a music that is overly precious, but Holter expertly balances the refined aspects of her approach with a daring and inventive spirit. In addition, while “Betsy On The Roof” is ostensibly a piano driven ballad, complete with swelling strings, the arrangement includes strange and striking sonic additions that seem to bubble just beneath the track’s more placid surface.
