Marissa Nadler directs and animates the new video for her devastatingly gorgeous track “Janie In Love” off her Strangers LP out now on Sacred Bones. Mixing stop-motion animation shot at her studio in Boston with composited footage filmed in the forests near-by, Nadler creates evocative, homespun imagery.
Presented in black and white, the artist’s handcrafted clay masks and figures are constructed and deconstructed before our eyes, and while they help dramatize the track’s darker moments, Nadler’s casual, seemingly self-shot footage in the woods–often seen with a dramatic sun-burst back lighting her form–gives these images their warm and human quality.
