Label News: Aural Films Releases Hertz and Spivey’s ‘Through Corridors Bright’ LP

The San Francisco-based net label Aural Films publishes soundtracks for imaginary movies. Active since 2012, it is run by the artist and musician Jack Hertz–who also operates Acousmatique Recordings. In the years since it’s inception, Aural Films has been a prolific outlet for Ambient-leaning and Experimental recordings, and the label has featured electronic musicians like Cousin Silas, Christian Fiesel, Lutz Thuns, Wolfgang Gsell, Michael Meara, and Hertz himself–to name just a few. This month Aural Films released Hertz and Spivey’s LP Through Corridors Bright. Featuring programming work, sounds and loops from Jack Hertz, as well as composition, sounds and mixing from William Spivey, the 16-track album has been under construction since 2015.

Though William Spivey began playing drums at an early age and spent time in the 70’s and 80’s playing rock music, in 2000 he began studying digital audio synthesis, editing, and mixing. This led the musician down his current path of composing ambient music, and he explains:

“My work stems from experimenting with an emphasis on originality. I’m fascinated with harmonic interplay, rhythmic content and abstract sequencing.”

With solo releases out on labels like We Are All Ghosts, Petroglyph Music, as well as Aural Films, the musician has also collaborated with an international array of fellow experimental musicians like Christopher Alvarado, Consciousness Prism, M.Nomized, and Wehwalt.

Regular readers here at Live Eye Tv should be pretty familiar by now with the work of Jack Hertz. Besides his efforts as a label owner, the musician utilizes synthesizers and various instruments, as well as found objects, field recordings, and effects processing in his sound design. With numerous solo releases under his belt on his own labels, as well as outlets like Treetrunk Records and Buddhist On Fire, Hertz can often be found collaborating with a host of like-minded musicians like Scott Lawlor, Christian Fiesel, and TOTAL E.T.. On Through Corridors Bright, the duo of Hertz and Spivey explore Ambient and West Coast electronic music to craft a long-player perfect for your next aural trip into the cinematic realms of deep listening.
