Oneohtrix Point Never‘s Age Of LP is out now on Warp Records, and today Daniel Lopatin dropped videos for the album tracks “The Station” and “We’ll Take It.” Age Of is the artist’s ninth studio album and it finds him continuing to travel further from his original palette of ambient and IDM while edging ever closer into difficult to classify realms of experimental pop. In addition to releasing Age Of this past June, Lopatin is also touring a multi-media performance entitled Myriad with a few upcoming dates in Tokyo, Paris, and LA scheduled for September and October.

The Station” began as a demo for Usher before being included on Age Of, and it features Lopatin on Vocodor-processed vocals with lyrics written by Shaun Trujillo. Continually confounding the expectations of a lyrically driven pop song, Lopatin’s penchant for disturbing expected structures is on full display here. The video for the track was animated by the LA-based illustrator Daylen Seu and the black and white visuals find two protagonists locked in scenarios of bondage and masochism with an image of linked chains as it’s main thematic emblem.

We’ll Take It” features glitched-out and noisy elements of pitch black electronics. The musician James Blake contributed to the production and mixing on Age Of and on this cut he can be heard on keyboards. The video for the track was directed by the frequent OPN visual collaborator and artist Nate Boyce, as well as Last Renaissance. Utilizing 3D animation and images, ideas, and characters from Lopatin’s Myriad show, on “We’ll Take It” Boyce’s eye melting and cutting edge use of visual space is on continuous display.

On July 27th OPN will release The Station and We’ll Take It EPs on digital and 12″ vinyl respectively. The EPs will feature three new tracks including “Trance 1.” The cut originally appeared as an edited arrangement in tribute to The Voyager Spacecrafts? Golden Records–“a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth.” You can pre-order the EPs here.
