Watch: Xiu Xiu “Pumpkin Attack on Mommy and Daddy”

Xiu Xiu returns today with “Pumpkin Attack on Mommy and Daddy,” the second installment of a 3-part video series running in anticipation of the group’s upcoming LP Girl with Basket of Fruit, due out February 8th via Polyvinyl Records. This second act follows up thematically on the inaugural visuals for “Scisssssssors,” which dropped this past December.

“Pumpkin Attack on Mommy and Daddy” was written by Angela Seo, with lyrical contributions from the band’s Jamie Stewart, as well as the performance artist Elliot Reed. The video, like “Scisssssssors,” was once again directed by Seo and Anna Lian Tes, and it features appearances from Reed and veteran body artist Ron Athey–known for his extreme live performances like Four Scenes In A Harsh Life.

As far as inspiration for the track is concerned, the band points to TOILETPAPER, the bi-annual magazine from the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari, Boyd McDonald, the creator of the long-running x-rated gay zine Straight to Hell, as well as Korean mythological drawings and alcohol. It’s no wonder then, like the visuals for its’ predecessor, “Pumpkin Attack on Mommy and Daddy” is quite cryptic as it follows a dream-like logic that seems to draw inspiration from performance art, as well as ancient ritual and mythology.

Look for Xiu Xiu to perform songs from Girl with Basket of Fruit at the Warhol Theater in Pittsburgh on the album’s release date, February 8th. In addition, the band has announced a US tour with additional dates to follow. Xiu Xiu’s live band will include Thor Harris, Jordan Geiger, and Jamie “Bunny” Stewart.
