L.A.-based producer Leland Jackson returns under his Cakedog guise to drop the footwork inspired track “Thrones (Clout Version).” We last heard from Jackson under his Ahnnu moniker, with the 2018 EP release “Parallax” (Leaving Records). The artist’s Cakedog project has been a means for Jackson to explore his interest in Juke and Footwork thru the years, and his upcoming 20-track compilation Doggystyle, due out July 3rd via Leaving Records, is no exception.

Having mentored with Chicago’s Godfather of Footwork R.P. Boo, these tracks, recorded between 2017-18, are dedicated to the DJ, dance, and production culture that forms the heart of this style. On “Thrones (Clout Version),” the producer proves he’s learned his lessons well. Padded kicks, rolling toms, and whip-smart snares combine for the kind of syncopated rhythms that are the hallmark of this genre. The track’s 8-bit melody lends a vintage gamer’s vibe, and Cakedog rounds out the cut with vocals from Migos.

You can checkout the album art, designed by Jackson himself, below, as well as a a full track listing…
