The Japanese musician Cuushe returns today as FEM to release her “Light” 7″ via flau records. The victim of a brazen theft and repeated on-line harassment by troubled Japanese producer Ametsub, the artist’s return has been a harrowing journey. Left without music equipment and the hard drives of material she was working on, the lyrics to “Light” were all that remained after the burglary.

Fittingly, after a three-year hiatus, Cuushe returns as FEM, which stands for “Finite Element Method” (a way of problem-solving by subdividing larger parts into discrete and smaller units). While previous releases like 2013’s Girl You Know That I Am Here But The Dream and 2012’s Butterfly Case, both also out on flau, featured dreamy synth-pop ambiance, FEM finds Australian drummer and keyboardist Evan Dorrian lending his talents.

“Light” is out today digitally, alongside a remix by Brainfeeder artist IGLOOGHOST. Vinyl copies of the 7″ are due out June 19th with flau records donating the label share of Bandcamp sales to bail funds in support of recent protests around the world!
