Devin Shaffer “Enemy”

Chicago-based musician Devin Shaffer is readying her debut LP In My Dreams I’m There for release on June 18th via American Dreams Records. “Enemy” is the album’s first single and it is accompanied by an excellent new video directed by Carl Solether. The song itself is an introspective meditation on relationships and jealousy, and it combines Shaffer’s lullaby vocals with gently cascading runs of guitar and buoyant synth pads. While the track has been a staple in her live set for some years, the album version finds “Enemy” further filled out with the addition of new elements.

The video for “Enemy” is an icy affair. Set against the backdrop of a winter’s day in the Midwest, the visuals find Shaffer wandering snowy country lanes in the twilight and moon bathing along a frigid river. With coloring provided by Emily Sprague (Florist), the saturated images are the perfect visual metaphor for this song’s intimate personal reflections.
