Lot’s of cool stuff to view this week, like the video for the first cut off The Eternal, Sonic Youth‘s 16th and newest album. The video for the song “Sacred Trickster”, directed by Thurston Moore‘s friend and sometimes musical collaborator, Tom Surgal, is packed with arty allusions to folks like Yves Klein, Patti Smith, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, etc., and follows the antics of those oh so prevalent Maoist leaning SoHo art chicks as they plot their Situationist pranks upon NY’s cultural elite. Toronto’s, Fucked Up, have been TEARING IT UP since 2002, developing an infectious and sometimes violent brew of hardcore. Killer shows at the Pitchfork festival this year and an outstanding album for Matador in 2008, The Chemistry of Common Life, have made Fucked Up’s frontman Pink Eyes a punk rock celeb! See what all the noise is about in this video for the song “Crooked Head”, shot by VBS.tv’s Brendan Fitzgerald and edited by indie movie maker Bajir Cannon.
More cool stuff from SF’s Girls, who have a full length on True Panther Sounds, coming out on September 22. Album, promises hazy bedroom gems like this one, “Hellhole Ratrace”. The video has a great, natural, cinema verite feel, as it follows a group of friends through a long night of debauchery and good times! Real people, no models, yeah!!
And, to finish the week, Titus Andronicus, with a video for the song “Upon Viewing Brueghel’s “Landscape With The Fall of Icarus”” off their album The Airing of Grievances. Tough, fast, and black, black, black. Check it!
