Ariel Pink and Jorge Elbrecht help Mexican Summer celebrate five years! The esteemed NY label has released a deluxe, 256-page art book to celebrate the event, aptly called Mexican Summer: Five Years, and it will include a 10″ with musical collaborations from artists like Autre Ne Veut and Fennesz, Quilt and Bobb Trimble, Bay of Pigs, a band which brings together musicians from Spiritualized and Soldiers of Fortune with former Royal Trux founder Neil Hagerty, as well as Jorge Elbrose, the teaming of Ariel Pink and Jorge Elbrecht. “Called To Ring” was recorded in the same sessions that produced this summer’s single “Hang on to Life“, and for the recording the two were joined by MGMT drummer Will Berman. Video honors belong to Mr. Elbrecht himself, and he explains it this way,

“For this video we tried to imagine a perfect band to play ‘Called to Ring,’ and I think we succeeded. The idea was to have a wash of hair, camo and white guitars all happening in slow motion, with Ariel and I popping in and out as these cold, eyeless theater masks. As we sing in unison on the recording, we thought we should spend the bulk of the video conjoined.”

Mexican Summer: Five Years was designed by the label’s longtime visual collaborator Dan Schechter, and the 11×11 art book, limited to a one time pressing of a 1000 copies, will include photos, never-before seen art, as well as written contributions from some of those on the Mexican Summer roster!
