Unfortunately, for Xiu Xiu‘s new video “Stupid In The Dark“, director Amir Shoucri has chosen a much too obvious reading of the track, casting it as an anti-climatic murder story that features the band’s Angela Seo as a seemingly jilted and vindictive lover. Much is lost in cutting Xiu Xiu’s blood curdling and emotionally eviscerating sonics this close to the bone, and the video’s reliance on physical gore and violence seems to reduce the emotional nuances in Jamie Stewart‘s difficult, but compelling vision.
Fortunately, though, Xiu Xiu’s stunning new work, Angel Guts: Red Classroom, came out yesterday via Polyvinyl, and Stewart & Co. will celebrate the event with a US tour beginning later this month. Check out the dates below!
