Throughout the years, extreme metal duo The Body have collaborated with several like-minded artists. Last year’s hook up with The Haxan Cloak, on the I Shall Die Here LP (Thrill Jockey), might have been the most notable, as it paired The Body with an artist outside the genres of experimental metal. Bobby Krlic‘s haunted work in the realms of electronic ambiance, though, turned out to be an excellent match for The Body’s deep, sonic despair.
Now, The Body has joined forces up with their longtime compatriots from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Thou, and the results on the You, Whom I Have Always Hated LP (Thrill Jockey) are as horrific as ever! Witness “Beyond the Realms of Dream, That Fleeting Shade Under the Corpus of Vanity“, a toxic stew of sludge and gore sure to be the soundtrack to your next nightmare. The video for the track is directed by Mitch Wells, and it’s glitchy, black and white vision is looped and obsessive, focusing on a shadowy, hooded figure locked in banal activities that take on a frightening portent when played over this blood curdling cut.
