UK producer Mark Van Hoen will return this year under his Locust moniker to release 3 themed 12″s via Medical Records‘ techno imprint, Transfusions. Look for the EPs to feature artwork and logo design by Paul Nicholson (creator of the Aphex Twin logo). The first 12″ is entitled “Red,” and it is due out February 1st.

Fuck These Days” kicks off the 4 track collection and it finds Van Hoen crafting nail-biting tension. Combining the hefty bounce of kick drum with bit- skewed rhythmic patterns, a pitch shifting one-note arpeggiation helps to set a manic mood here. But, when the producer drops the title’s vocal sample, “Fuck These Days” boils over with a feverish dread.

Van Hoen is also responsible for the track’s sick visuals, which premiered this week via Resident Advisor. They mirror the cut’s sonic tact using what looks like a video synthesizer to create some seriously glitched imagery. Compositing beat triggered noise over mysterious documentary footage of people who seem to be either in the throes of psychosis or drug induced hysteria, the video is a perfect accompaniment to Locust’s razor-sharp take on techno.
