Watch: Cable Ties “Sandcastles”

Cable Ties have a new video for their track “Sandcastles” off the band’s upcoming LP Far Enough due out March 23rd on Merge Records. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, the trio combines the swagger 0f ’70s rock with the brash attitude of punk. Led by the fierce vocalist Jenny McKechnie, who also plays guitar, on this cut she exchanges a virulent call-and-response with fellow vocalist and drummer Shauna Boyle. Meanwhile, bassist Nick Brown rounds out “Sandcastles” by providing the hypnotic pulse that lies at the heart of this track’s driving rhythmic urge.

The video for “Sandcastles” is directed by Danny Cohen. He follows the band’s stripped back approach with an equally minimalist aesthetic. Seen performing in front of a curtained wall, the black and white visuals focus on each member individually through medium and medium-close shots. The result is a framing that concentrates on each of the musician’s facial expressions as they perform, thereby seeming to essentialize the fury that animates this song.
