Thollem returns this week with a new video for “La Vida Es.” This version of the track was remixed by Sunken Cages (Ravish Momin), and it appears on Hot Pursuit of Happiness 2020 #2. However, a previous version of the song, which includes lyrics in Spanish by ACVilla, was included on HPOH 2020 #1, which came out this past September. Thollem reports that he and Momin have worked together on-and-off for years and that they are currently working on two albums together set to come out next year on the label Astral Spirits. He explains:
“This remix was a great surprise for me actually. He works with Ableton, sampling sounds and playing them through his Midi Drum set, pretty crazy watching him work/play. First time anyone’s done a remix of a song of mine. Feels good to keep opening up to new possibilities!”
The visuals for the track were created by ACVilla using projected media on various objects around the house like a recliner, fans, and doors. These re-filmed projections are a way of “recontextualizing things and events from the outside into our most personal places,” explains Thollem. The result is an eye-searing affair that combines these familiar objects from around the house with sometimes intense and fiery visuals as if to ask, “is it normal when the horrific becomes quotidian?”
